Location and Geography

Dagestan, officially the Republic of Dagestan, is a republic of Russia. It is located in southwestern Russia, on the eastern end of the northern flank of the Greater Caucasus mountain range. The republic borders Georgia and Azerbaijan to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the east.

Capital and Population

The capital of Dagestan is Makhachkala, located on the Caspian Sea coast. As of 2021, the republic has a population of approximately 3.1 million people.
